Description
This
is a Rare Vintage 1972 Oceanography Map titled “Submarine Topography of the
Scotia Sea” by Bruce C. Heezen. The Scotia Sea is at the Southern reaches of
the Atlantic Ocean, between & to the east of Antarctica & the lower tip
of South America. Printed by the American Geographical Society, the 16 ¾” tall
x 29” wide map shows bottom topography in contoured ocean depths of different
colors. The map was “Plate 4 / Folio 16 Morphology / Antarctic Map Folio
Series”. Heezen was responsible for the Submarine Topography. There is a key to
the ocean depth colors. Major ocean & land features are identified on the
map, and the map was done to a 1:5,500,000 scale. Bruce Heezen was my boss way
back then. The Map has some light wear here & there along its edges, & some
light bends, but is overall in very good condition. As a Bonus I’m including a
1967 National Geographic Society Map of the Indian Ocean. The 19” tall x 25”
wide, is an artists rendering of what the bottom of the Ocean Floor looks like,
by Heinrich Berann. This map has been rolled, and has some wear in its corners.
This map was done with the technical / scientific research of Bruce Heezen
& his associate Marie Tharp. If you do not know of Bruce Heezen, he was
important enough figure in the Oceanic world, for the US Navy to name a ship
after him!! Look Him Up!! Please see the Ebay Shipping Calculator to determine the shipping
